Mats Sexton, L.Ac., Dipl.Ac., is the Pindoctor. Licensed Acupuncturist + Diplomate of Acupuncture certified by the NCCAOM. He began his Chinese medicine career in 1998 with shiatsu, a form of Japanese bodywork, and then completed a four-year program at the Minnesota Institute of Acupuncture in 2000. In addition, he earned a massage therapy diploma in 2005 and today he seamlessly blends these therapies into unique healing sessions. Mats is certified through the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) and licensed by the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice (#1171).
Mats thoroughly enjoys working with new clients and strives to make the experience educational and enjoyable. Since 2003, he has been a nationally known and sought after specialist in the treatment of macular degeneration and other retinal diseases and today this is his primary focus as an acupuncturist.
In addition to his clinical work, Mats has been a board member and staff acupuncturist at the Aliveness Project, a Chinese Medicine instructor at CenterPoint massage school and he lectures frequently. In 2011, he was honored as a “Distinguished Alumnus” by Northwestern Health Sciences University and was lead presenter at the Davis Alumni Lecture where he discussed his work with acupuncture and ophthalmology.
Mats is also a writer and actor who created, wrote and co-starred in The Pindoctor Show, a ten episode acupuncture sketch comedy series that aims to promote the profession by demystifying its curious edge with humor. He is certain that laughter, second to acupuncture, is the best medicine. In 2002, his book The B-52’s Universe was a Minnesota Book Awards finalist. Mats is currently at work on two new Chinese medicine-based book projects.
Outside of the clinic, Mats enjoys anything outdoors, especially skiing and mountaineering. In January 2013 he successfully climbed 22,841′ Aconcagua, the highest peak in South America and his fifth of the “Seven Summits.”
